Consultants work in teams on cases.
They receive professional mentoring, engage clients directly, and deliver a final project.
We are launching our inaugural project cycle in Semester 1 of 2026, offering students hands-on experience to deliver high-impact consulting work for Asia-focused clients.
Applications open on the 25th of January 2026 to university students based in Sydney and Melbourne only, and will close on Sunday, 15th February 2026.
What can you expect?
Project consultants will be working in teams to solve problems and create value for our Asia-focused clients across one semester. Teams will conduct market research, develop strategic recommendations, and deliver actionable insights tailored to regional business contexts for the client.
The engagement will include defined project deliverables, supported by regular client meetings, and will culminate in a final team presentation. Consultants are expected to meet a weekly hour commitment of 7-8 hours inclusive of team meetings, individual work, and occasional client meetings, though this is flexible depending on the stage of the project.
Application Timeline
Candidates will be required to submit a written application consisting of short answer questions and resume upload. Interviews will consist of a case study and behavioural component.

Lantern consultants’ primary responsibility is to generate high-quality insights and effectively present strategic recommendations to their clients. In particular, we will be seeking out individuals with advanced interpersonal skills, problem-solving skills, and a strong work ethic.
Interpersonal skills:
Clients expect a high standard of professionalism, including clear communication and effective presentation skills during meetings with their consultants. As consultants work in teams of six, strong teamwork skills are essential, along with the ability to recognise and leverage both individual and team members’ strengths.
Problem-Solving Skills:
Successful applicants will be detail-oriented, analytical, and creative, with the ability to learn quickly and remain flexible when unexpected challenges arise.
Work Ethic and Passion:
Consultants must be able to dedicate 7-8 hours per week across team meetings, client meetings, and individual work. They should also have a genuine interest in strengthening Asia-Australia relations and, given the level of independent work and remote collaboration involved, be highly self-motivated and proactive.
Beyond these requirements, skills such as marketing expertise, business acumen, or Asia literacy are desirable but in no way required, and we highly value knowledge and perspectives from all academic and personal backgrounds, including STEM, arts, and beyond.
Note: Applicants who demonstrate strong capability in their recruitment process may be offered a team leader role. This role includes serving as the main liaison for their team and clients while managing administrative tasks such as scheduling, deadlines, and task delegation.
